In The Spotlight: Lane Bickel

Ken

Lane Bickel first came into badminton prominence in the 1950’s when, as a junior, he reached the Canadian singles Final 3 years in a row. After a brief retirement due to university studies, he returned to competition in the sixties and seventies.  During that period, he won 8 provincial Open singles titles (Alberta – 2, Saskatchewan - 2, Quebec - 4). He also won 7 provincial Open doubles titles in Quebec and represented Canada in Thomas Cup competition against the U.S.

After a long period of inactivity, he returned to Seniors and Masters competition in 1996. Since that time, he has won 7 age group singles titles in the U.S and 6 in Canada. In doubles, he has won 3 titles in the U.S and 3 in Canada. In mixed, he has won a total of 4 titles in the U.S and Canada as well as 1 world title in Australia.

In addition to competing, he has coached both the Quebec Elite team and the badminton team at McGill.
